Later

In the madness of the daily grind
We place bliss to brew
Like tea on the stove
Letting it sit in boiling water
To extract the exact intensity of flavour
To be enjoyed later
Always later
When the time is right
When we have the new job
When the kids go to college
Or when we are empty nesters.
But what if bliss came
And left even,
When we were waiting for it to brew
Like tea on the stove
What if it swelled, its chest puffed up,
Vigorous and unnoticed, right beside us,
When our eyes were elsewhere
In the madness of the daily grind?
